LGBTQ Rights

Oregon Area Progressives believe that LGBTQ rights are human rights and that exclusion based on sexual orientation and gender identity are intolerable and unacceptable.

We believe that governmental policies at all levels, from the federal government to local municipalities and school districts should ensure equal protection to all people. We encourage our members to educate themselves regarding policies that affect LGBTQ people and to work to support inclusive organizations that work to promote LGBTQ rights.

These area non-profit organizations are directly engaged in work that supports LGBTQ people. Check out their websites for information and volunteer opportunities.

In Dane County it is estimated that every night approximately  300 youth go to bed homeless. 1 in 3 youth will be approached for sex in exchange for food, shelter, drugs, etc. within 48 hours of leaving home, 75% of these youth have already or will drop out of school. These are good kids in bad situations and they need our help. At Briarpatch we work with these youth to make sure they have the resources and support they need in order to succeed. Learn more here.
