Donate FAQ

How will my donation be used?

A:

OAP uses donations to pay for our continued activities to bring about social and political change. We are not a PAC and we do not give money to ANY political campaigns. We are a not-for-profit organization. We use money to pay for our website and basic office supplies, which we use to promote our organization and to publicize and carry out our events. Events include, but are not limited to: voter forums, conferences, open mic nights, letter-writing campaigns, phone banks, and canvasses. We do not endorse candidates in primary races. All members of OAP are unpaid volunteers. Our weekly meetings are open to the public. There is no membership fee

What is Democracy Engine?

A:

Democracy Engine is a payment processor that we have chosen to allow us to receive donations by credit card. They are a non-partisan company. Visit their website to learn more.

Why Democracy Engine?

Why did OAP choose Democracy Engine and not Act Blue or another payment processor?

A:

Democracy Engine is the only payment processor to provide seamless integration with Nation Builder, our web host. Using Act Blue or another processor would require us to set up a whole different page on their website and track donations there instead of everything being in one place on our Nation Builder website. Also, using other payment processors would require what is called a "merchant account" at our bank, which is an expensive option for a small group like OAP. We want to use the money we raise to accomplish our goals, not pay fees at a bank.
